What could be the cause of a popping sound in my head?

I find that sometimes when I'm about to fall asleep, I hear a loud popping sound in my head which causes me to wake up and causes my heart rate to elevate. It also makes me dizzy and this is preventing me from sleep. What could be the issue and how would I treat it?

I think you need to speak with your doctor so he/or she can get more history and examine you. Your starting point could be your primary care physician but you may decide to go straight to neurologist. Being neurologist myself I clearly can not decide what this could be based on this brief description. Bets of luck to you.

I am not familiar with the popping sound you are hearing. It could possibly be your ears If it is affecting your heart rate and causing sleeplessness you should consult and ENT Physician or Sleep Specialist. In order to provide more suggestions, we would need more information.
