An accredited sleep lab with board certified sleep physicians is usually your best bet for overall sleep diagnostics and care. Your primary care physician can refer you to a local sleep specialist for evaluation to get the process started.

The best sleep studies are provided by centers that are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. These centers adhere to strict guidelines regarding the delivery of sleep medicine services, and always are guided by the influence of a board certified sleep specialist. There are services, especially "home sleep testing" services that may purport to provide excellent care, but do not. They may not offer the oversight of a board certified specialist. The best ways to ensure that you are involved with a reputable provider are to (a) work with an accredited sleep disorders center, (b) work with a board certified sleep specialist, (c) get a recommendation from your primary care physician, and (d) check the Website of you State's medical board to determine if there are any actions against the provider you have found. There are so many excellent healthcare providers, you should not settle for anything but the best!

The "best" sleep studies are usually those performed by a sleep laboratory which is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine which requires that a board certified sleep specialist is the medical director.
