How is periodic leg movement treated? Periodic limb movement disorder during sleep is a disorder characterized by rhythmic involuntary movement of the extremities, and in particular, the lower extremities. It is most often associated with restless leg syndrome. The treatment of this disorder is with medications. Such medications can be those that are also used to treat movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease. Other classes of medications used include sedative hypnotic medications as well as analgesics and anticonvulsant medications.
