The best thing to do is to call and schedule a consultation with a qualified sleep specialist.

If you have only had insomnia for six months, your chances for correcting the problem are much better than if you had suffered for a longer period, like years. Without knowing anything about you, I recommend you see a sleep specialist promptly. Board certified sleep specialists should be in a position to find a cause and treat your insomnia. Before making an appointment I would suggest you ask the appointment person if the doctor treats insomnia as some specialists only treat sleep apnea.

Identifying the cause for the insomnia is the place to start. We do not always find a cure, but treatment with cognitive and behavioral therapy or medication is usually effective. A sleep history and exam is the next step. You can also read about insomnia on our website.

Insomnia has many root causes. It is therefore very important to seek out the evaluation of a board certified sleep specialist.
