How can weight loss affect sleep apnea?

My sleep apnea seems to be improving as I am losing weight. I have lost 30 pounds so far and I am hoping to lose another 50 pounds. Is it possible that my sleep apnea could simply go away once I reach a healthy body weight?

Significant weight loss could decrease the severity of your sleep apnea. After you have met your weight loss goal or prior to discontinuing CPAP, you should see your sleep specialists. An overnight study may be recommended to determine that you do not still have sleep apnea. You certainly do not want to quit CPAP prematurely and leave the sleep apnea untreated.
