Does insurance generally cover sleep studies?

I believe that I may have a sleep disorder because I have difficulty falling asleep at night due to various issues. I need to get a sleep study done but I am not sure I can afford it. Does insurance generally cover sleep studies? Are there cheaper alternatives and how effective are the in-home sleep study kits?

Absolutely! Insurances do cover sleep disorder testing and treatment in the lab. In-lab testing is the Gold Standard in evaluating for sleep disorders. Home testing is not as comprehensive and monitors less variables. Also, in-home testing is not accompanied by a technician. Speak with your Board Certified Sleep Specialist and your insurance carrier to determine your insurance benefits and what test is right for you. Any sleep disorder center should be happy to verify your insurance benefits, obtain any required pre-authorizations, and inform you what your approximate costs will be prior to your study.
